23km route between Al Nahda and Healthcare City planned to open in August 2011
Trial runs of the Dubai Metro Green Line have begun in preparation for the planned opening in August next year.
For the past 2 weeks residents and travellers along the Dubai Metro Green Line route between Al Nahda and Healthcare City have noticed the familiar blue trains slowly navigating the elevated tracks.
Though the exact date of the opening of the Dubai Metro Green Line is not yet revealed, the Green Line was originally projected to be operational by April 2010.
In June the Chairman and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Mattar Al Tayer said that the Dubai Metro Green Line project is progressing on schedule towards the planned opening in August 2011.
Construction works for most of the Dubai Metro Green Line stations have been completed, although the completion of the interior of the stations themselves varies from 10 to 100 per cent complete. The project, with an estimated cost of Dh1.5 billion, was started in July 2006 and comprises 8 underground stations, 12 elevated stations, and one depot. The length of the Dubai Green Line Metro is a total of 23km with 8km underground and an estimated journey time from start to finish of around 26 minutes.
Initially, 17 trains will be used on the Dubai Metro Green Line rising to 42 trains in 2015 and 50 trains in 2020.
