Dubai in the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East has a reputation for being very sunny and hot. Daily temperatures in Dubai of 40ºc are not uncommon and the yearly average rainfall is very low at just 150mm. The climate in Dubai is known as arid subtropical and desert like and even during the winter nights, temperatures do not tend to go below the mid teens which means it never gets cold in Dubai.


Dubai Weather in Summer

The Summer weather in Dubai can consist of very hot temperatures and during June, the emirate of Dubai can experience up to 11.5 hours of sunlight a day with an average of 10 hours per day between April and October.

June to September tend to be the hottest months of the year which can see temperatures soar to around 45ºC. The Average temperature in Dubai during this time of the year is in the low to mid 30’s with the average temperature during August usually reaching 35ºC so do not forget to pack your sunglasses and plenty of sun cream if you are planning to visit Dubai in Summer.

The months of May and October in Dubai can also be very hot too, with average temperatures during these months also reaching the mid to low 30’s.

During summer in Dubai the amount of rainfall is low to non existent and you are very unlikely to see any rain at all in Dubai during summer. In general, rainfall is very low between April and November with most of the annual rainfall falling in Dubai during winter.

You may also be interested in knowing that if your staying in one of the many luxurious hotels in Dubai, then you will most definitely appreciate your swimming pool in summer as the temperature of the water in the sea can reach up to 35ºC in late summer which is more like a warm bath than a refreshing dip.


Dubai Weather in Winter

Winter in Dubai basically runs from December to February and consists of somewhat more comfortable temperatures in Dubai. December to February are the coolest months of the year with an average temperature of around 20ºC.

This can actually be a pleasant time to visit Dubai, and especially for those who are unaccustomed to hot temperatures or do not like to experience the intense heat during the summer months in Dubai.

Dubai in winter is when the majority of the annual rainfall occurs. However, as the annual rainfall is approximately 150mm, there is actually still not a lot of precipitation during these months. On average, the most of the rain during this time falls in late winter during February and March with an average of between 20 and 25mm. To be put in another way, each of these months will still only receive around 5 to 6 days of rainfall.

With this in mind, heavy rain can still occur in Dubai and in January 2008, 120mm fell within 24 hours which is practically all of the yearly average. Rain this heavy is a rare occurrence but heavy showers can indeed occur each year.

Humidity during winter in Dubai is slightly higher than the rest of the year and the sea in Dubai will still maintain temperatures above 20ºC all year, which means you can go still for a swim even during winter in Dubai.

The days soon begin to get hotter in early spring although there is still a chance of rain and the climate in Dubai during Autumn is generally warm and dry.

As you can see, there is not much rainfall in Dubai and from May to October there is over 10 hours of sunshine oer day!

The high temperatures in summer from June to September can be unbearable although you will find air conditioning in all buildings and your hotel swimming pool will certainly get plenty of use.
