Dubai Metro – Green Line
The Dubai Metro Green Line is one of the two lines on the Dubai Metro network in Dubai which is currently still under construction. The majority of exterior works and viaducts are completed although some of the green line metro station interiors do still need some work. The Green line on the Dubai Metro will have 20 stations that will cover a distance of 22.5 km (14.0 miles). The Green line runs through Deira and Bur Dubai and generally runs parallel to Dubai Creek.
Green Line Transfer Stations & Extension
There are two transfer stations on the Dubai Metro Green Line where the Green and Red Line intersect, these stations are Union Square and the Khalid bin Waleed. The two transfer stations on the green line allow passengers to change between metro lines in Dubai. The Green Line Dubai metro will have a main depot in Al Qusais.
The Union Square Station is set to become one of the largest metro stations in the world once it has become fully operational to receive both metro lines in Dubai. The Union Square metro station has an area spanning 25,000 square meters and the capacity to handle around 22,000 passengers per hour. The Union Square metro station consists of 2 entry points, 2 levels, a length extending 230 metres, 50 metres of width and a depth of 18 metres.
The biggest elevated station on the Dubai Green Line is the Al Qiyadah Station along Al Ittihad Road which is located close to the Dubai Police General HQ. The station has a capacity to handle 11,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
Extension plans for the Dubai Green Line have already been approved and it has already been extended by around 4.9 kilometres (3.0 miles) from Dubai Healthcare City to Al Jaddaf.
